Intel Meteor Lake chip will support Microsoft Win12
Hardware whistleblower @leaf_hobby recently deleted post by Hobby revealed that Intel had learned about Microsoft's next-generation operating system. Intel's internal documents mentioned that the upcoming Meteor Lake platform supports Windows 12 systems. Intel's Meteor Lake CPU may include 20 PCIe Gen5 channels, and Wi-Fi 7 will debut for the first time.Microsoft and Intel declined to comment on the post. In the summer of 2022, a new report said that Microsoft changed its plan to release a new version of Windows every three years instead of continuing to provide services for one version (do you remember the saying "Windows 10 is the last Windows"?). Although Microsoft has not confirmed Windows 12, people have predicted that it will be the successor of Windows 11.
"When we begin to develop the future version of Windows, we will consider the natural role of AI in its experience."
Implementing AI-based functions in Windows 12 means that Microsoft needs to strengthen its relationship with Intel, AMD and Qualcomm. Therefore, it is not surprising to see the next operating system mentioned in the document. The functions driven by AI usually require deeper integration with hardware, and these three PC processor manufacturers are already working in this direction. For example, AMD's recent Ryzen 7000 mobile chip has a dedicated AI engine for Microsoft Windows Studio Effects, including noise suppression, eye contact, background blur, etc.
Intel's Meteor Lake platform is expected to arrive in 2024, just before the third anniversary of Windows 11 and the debut of Windows 12. However, it has not been officially confirmed. In addition, Microsoft's plan can be changed at any time, just as some products such as Surface Mini are canceled before release.
