AMD Ruilong 9 7950X3D is now unblocked, and Gaoplay can overclock it to 5.9GHz

At the beginning of this year, AMD released the Rayon 7000X3D series products based on the Zen4 architecture, including the 16-core R9 7950X3D, the 12-core R9 7900X3D, and the 8-core R7 7800X3D. It continues to stack up to 64MB of 3D V-Cache cache, with a total capacity of up to an amazing 144MB.

Now, AMD R9 7950X3D and R9 7900X3D have been released and will be officially sold at 22:00 tonight. The official suggested price is 5299 yuan and 4499 yuan respectively, which are 1300 yuan and 1200 yuan higher than the standard version; The R7 7800X3D will not be available until April 6.

With the release of the new processor ban, overclocking enthusiast Skatter Bencher released a video about Ryzen 9 7950X3D overclocking, while der8auer spared no effort to introduce this Zen4 desktop CPU with 3D V-Cache.

Similar to the 5800X3D last year, the overclocking function of these processors has been locked. At least you can't use the traditional way, that is, you won't see the "X GHz" setting of Ryzen 7000X3D in the main board menu.

For Ryzen 7950X3D to give full play to its best performance, users must rely on Precision Boost Overdrive 2 or EXPO (Memory Overdrive Profile), etc., but these technologies are also difficult to bring satisfactory results to overclocking enthusiasts.

Skatter Bencher explained every possible overclocking strategy in detail, and was intent on releasing more performance potential of Ryzen X3D.

He explained that there were differences between the two Raphael chips (small chips) in the new Ryzen 9 X3D package. The maximum frequency limit of CCD0 (with 3D V-Cache) was 5250 MHz, and the lower voltage limit was 1.2V, while the maximum frequency limit of CCD1 (without 3D V-Cache) was 5750 MHz and 1.4V.

In contrast, the original 7950X SKU has only one Fmax limit, namely 5850 MHz and 1.475V.

When the PBO2 and voltage/frequency curve optimizer are enabled, the overcharger can force the CPU to rise to a higher frequency, but this requires a lot of time to try and constantly fine-tune. This strategy can increase its Fmax frequency to 5900 MHz. However, there is actually a better way. We can use the ECLK function available in Raphael to overclock.
Skatter Bencher explained that Raphael ECLK (external clock generator) can be used for Ryzen CPU and pushed to a higher frequency. In short, by changing ECLK to 105 MHz, he raised the voltage-frequency-temperature from 5.0 GHz/1.1 V/50 ° C to 5.25 GHz at the same voltage and temperature.

That is to say, the Ryzen 7000X3D series is similar to the 5800X3D series, which can be overclocked through ECLK, but this needs to be adjusted manually bit by bit, which may be complicated for some users. In addition, the overclocking range will also vary depending on the cooling scheme, the motherboard and the constitution of each processor. IT Home recommends that non-overclocking enthusiasts directly use the default configuration.

It is worth mentioning that although overclocking can bring higher running points, it may not necessarily achieve a significant increase in the number of game frames, such as the following figure. His overclocking method can improve CPU performance by 9%, but it brings little performance improvement to the game.
Of course, the gaming performance of this series of processors may not be as much as that of the competitive products, but it is indeed cheaper than the competitive products. For example, the i9-13900KS currently costs 5799 yuan (5999 yuan a few days ago), but the cheaper R9 7950X3D can easily achieve higher gaming performance with low power consumption.

In addition, the most impressive aspect of the new 7000X3D is the energy consumption ratio. At least 7950X3D has completely crushed 13900K and KS in efficiency.

According to the data of German ComputerBase, the average power consumption of 7950X3D is almost half of 13900K, about 70-80W, but the 13th generation Core i9 can exceed 150W. In addition, the X3D model also saves more power than AMD's own non-3D V-cache SKU.
