Apple Reality Pro head display does not need iPhone

Apple is working hard to improve the first version of its AR/VR head display, which is expected to be released in June. A new report from Bloomberg today provides some details about the features and limitations of the Reality Pro head display, including whether it needs to be used with the iPhone.

Mark Goodman of Bloomberg reported in his latest Power On newsletter that the latest beta version of Reality Pro headdisplay "will not need iPhone to set up or use". This is a big change compared with previous Apple devices, such as the Apple Watch, which initially requires iPhone to initialize settings.
On the contrary, Reality Pro Headdisplay will support setting independently of iPhone, and then users' data can be downloaded directly from iCloud. However, similar to the setting process of other Apple devices, users can also choose to transfer data directly from the iPhone or iPad to the head display.
Unlike other AR/VR head displays on the market, Reality Pro head displays do not have remote controls, but rely on the user's eyes and hands to control. Bloomberg said that Apple was testing the "typing in the air" function, but "it was very unstable in the test".
Gulman said: "I was told that on the latest internal prototype, there is a key text input function - typing in the air. But it has been very unstable in the test. Therefore, the head display may still support the use of its touch screen keyboard with the iPhone. Apple's internal goal is to make rapid improvements after the device is released. The company hopes that its head display will follow the same path as the original Apple Watch in this regard."
Bloomberg said that looking forward to the future, Apple is developing the second generation of Reality Pro head display, paying special attention to performance, "I was told that the focus of the second generation of Pro head display is performance. Although the first generation will carry a M2 chip and an auxiliary chip for AR and VR processing, it is not powerful enough to output graphics at Apple's ideal level. Apple's first head display was originally planned to be more powerful, with an independent hub and additional processing capabilities, which can be wirelessly transmitted to the entire family's devices Planning director Jony Ive denied this idea.
