With a maximum throughput of 46.4 Gbps, Kioxia has started mass production of UFS 4.0 flash chips

Kioxia recently released the latest generation of UFS 4.0 flash memory chips, which come in three specifications: 256GB, 512GB, and 1TB. Armor Xia stated that 256GB and 512GB chip samples will be shipped this month, while 1TB chip samples will be delivered in October.

The UFS 4.0 chip is packaged with an innovative BiCS FLASH 3D storage chip and master controller according to the JEDEC standard, supporting MIPI M-PHY 5.0 and UniPro 2.0 interfaces, with a theoretical throughput of up to 23.2 Gbps per channel and up to 46.4 Gbps per chip. The company also pointed out that UFS 4.0 storage is backwards compatible with UFS 3.1.

The main characteristics of Armor's next generation UFS 4.0 flash memory chip are that the sequential write speed is 18% faster than the previous generation UFS flash memory chip, the random write speed is increased by 30%, and the read speed is 13% faster.
